BLB #1

This is a social issue project I worked on about Child Nutrition in School. I picked the topic to address because obesity lead to other unhealthy habits, including low self-esteem issues, depression, and even bullying. Exercise is just as important as nutrition, but nutrition is something that can be promoted as an entire lifestyle more easily in a learning environment.

My current stand/level towards the subject is still in the learning process. I stumbled upon the topic when I was reading a book that talked about the Child Nutrition Act of 1966. The Act set aside funding for school lunches and healthy options due to many of the people who wanted to join the military being deemed unfit for service, due to their malnutrition.

I have not seen much social media content on the issue, but it is something I would really like to be involved in the future. My experience as a certified food safety manager in the state of Texas is most likely what has brought my interest towards this topic.

As of now, I think my current posted content has only just began to collectively build a ball to get "rolling down the hill." I believe the Texas Panhandle will be an excellent market to plan and help produce a “wind of change,” within the local area. Because of the number of farmers, ranchers and dairy farms in the area, I understand that I would have a fantastic support system for ideas and motivation to revamp school nutrition guidelines. Those guidelines could be used to make healthy lunches, fun for children/students and young adults. Link to the video: https://youtu.be/wtd52lIbukM
